BARTMANN

MAUD AND DOUGIE IN THE SUNSHINE

These two Bartmann are enjoying the sunshine on a November day on Wimbledon Common. They are based on the silver birch bark and Maud has an orange frill which is the same colour under the bark.

GROUP OF BARTMANN JANE WELCH CERAMICS

THE SPACE BETWEEN US

This piece is an installation of a number of Bartmann, using the negative as well as positive space. They are interacting as a group. There are a mixture of stoneware, lavafleck and earthenware pieces.

GEOFF AND DORIS IN THE SUNSHINE

These pieces are based on the silverbirch bark.

The inspiration for this collection came from an old Bartmann/Bellamine Jugs in the Victoria and Albert Museum. These were made in Germanyin the 16th century and exported to the UK.

I love the humour of these jugs, they are poking fun at Archbishop Bellamine who put a tax on beer but also a nod to the Wild Man of the Wood too.
